Under the heading Opening: Staying with the Trouble, Aarhus School of Architecture hosted an Architecture Festival that focused on the next chapter in the evolution of the School and of the architecture profession. A curated selection of leading architecture professionals from Denmark and abroad participated along with the general public, practising architects, the School and the arts to debate the future of the School.
The festival marked an opening of the field towards the world, as outside voices offered their perspectives on the new narratives in architecture. From science fiction, feminism and climate issues to economics and activism. The critical outside eye-openers helped articulate the fundamental cultural and planetary challenges that are going to define the future of the architecture profession.
The Architecture Festival will play a key role in the opening of the new School by articulating and challenging the role of architecture and pointing to the core qualities that form the basis of an architecture school. The festival is focused on the critical gaze, rather than any individual work of art or architecture, its format based on polyphonic debates rather than star monologues.
